BIS Alumni & IT Manager: Musgrave’s Group IT

Alan graduated with a first class honours degree from BIS in 2000 and spent a number of years working with Citigroup in London in the Equities Trading Systems Development sphere. He has worked in the retail/wholesale industry since 2002 with the Musgrave Group in Cork during which time he has led a number of different teams implementing a best in class ERP and Datawarehouse solution for Musgrave Group under the project banner of Musgrave Simplifies Retail or MSR. He will give an overview of this project with insights that can be applied to any project of scale.

Gary McDarby

Principal investigator: Mind Games, Media Lab Europe

Gary McDarby PhD CEng has a background in Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience and is based in the Complex Adaptive Systems Laboratory in UCD. He is particularly interested in the ways that technology can play a profound and positive role in human evolution. Some of his research areas include using technology in education, mental health, and the area of disability. He is a director of Camara (an organisation that distributes refurbished computers to marginalised computers in Africa) and the founder of the Liberties Computer Clubhouse (an educational initiative using creative technology to empower marginalised young people). He was formally a principle investigator at MIT Media Lab Europe heading up the MindGames group.

    Robert Spicer has over 40 years of Information Technology (IT) and executive management experience. Early in his career he held positions as a software engineer for Apollo Telemetry System during missions 8, 11, and 13; was an IT software engineer for military weapon control systems; and built satellite communication simulation models.For the past 25 years Bob was an EVP and CIO for Chevy Chase Bank, he is now an independent consultant within the financial IT industry to help banks define future state IT banking infrastructures.

    Deputy Chief Information Officer, Partners HealthCare System

    Partners HealthCare System, Inc. is a $7.1 billion healthcare delivery system in Boston and the largest private employer in Massachusetts. In her role, Ms. Finlay is responsible for the management of 1,500 information systems and telecommunications staff. Previously, she was the Chief Information Officer of Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Ms. Finlay is on the board of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, YearUp and is an appointed member of the Governor’s IT Advisory Council. She is also active in the Boston Chapter of the Society of Information Management (SIM).
